Too much detail

I'm not very good at the pithy one-liners that do well in summing up a complex story in less than eight words.

I tend to go into detail. Too much detail. I make a statement and then say it again in a different way, then again, and sometimes again. I've been in rooms where I can see this has frustrated people who are good at the concise version. They tend to take my paragraph(s), and conclude them into a perfect sentence that captures everything. I salute you, the modern-day literary philosophers.

And when I thought about it, I noticed the trend that other people who are visually-led also over-extend their words. We go in-depth because the detail that's in our heads, is primarily visual. And getting it out it leads to over-articulation, often to help ourselves understand it first. And then it's to try and help others in the room get what's going on inside these heads. Because we know we're usually not that good at summarising, and we're worried you won't see what we're seeing. We want to tell the story, take you on a journey and help you see the vision.

So, next time I'm waffling on, know that it's just how my brain is wired. Visuals first, words second. Lots of words. Please bear with me, and we can get to the pithy bit together (eventually).
