Look out for your weirdos

We’re all weird to someone.

I spent many of my formative years walking long distances along canals and railway lines in the dead of night to paint my alter-ego on a wall in the hopes that someone with the same disposition might see it and go ‘Nice.’ I’ve also travelled to the edges of Europe to watch grown adults scream and yell into microphones and dance like an idiot. And now, I’m quite partial to hurtling my body as fast I can down hills while on a two-wheeled machine that costs more than one of its cousins with an actual engine inside it.

Differentiation is one of the most important things for a brand. But it’s not enough to be just different. You have to be hopelessly different. Unapologetically different. This is where difference transcends into weird — the space where we’re not sorry about ourselves anymore. We must find this not just for the clients we work with and projects we work on, but for ourselves too.

It’s where we’re our most authentic self.

When you find the people who are accepting not because of your weirdness or differences — but because of who you really are — that’s when we find our communities. Our culture. And often our purpose.

Look out for your weirdos.
